Gregory S Smith

smithGreg Smith is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cape Town. He obtained his undergraduate degree at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and went on to complete his PhD (2004) at the University of the Western Cape (with Prof. Selwyn Mapolie). He enjoyed a short teaching stint at the University of South Africa and he spent some time at the University of Bristol, UK (2005-2006) as a Postdoctoral Fellow with Prof. Ian Manners, before taking up a position at the University of Cape Town. His research interests are centred on the synthesis of small molecule and macromolecular organometallic complexes (in particular, polymers and dendrimers) with applications in catalysis and bioorganometallic chemistry.
