Jonas C. Peters is the Bren Professor of Chemistry at Caltech and Director of the Resnick Sustainability Institute. In 1993 he received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry at the University of Chicago. Jonas then spent a year as a Marshall Scholar at the University of Nottingham, before returning to the United States to begin his doctoral studies at MIT in synthetic inorganic chemistry. After receiving his Ph.D., Jonas moved to UC Berkeley as a Miller Postdoctoral Fellow before starting his independent career here at Caltech in 1999. His research program pushes the boundaries of our understanding of the structure, bonding, and catalytic activity of inorganic compounds, particularly ones of relevance to global C, N, and O cycles and energy applications.
